Michael Dobie
To say that Michael is passionate about footy, might be a bit of an understatement. Growing up in Melbourne, his grandmother was an avid Richmond supporter. Family rumour has it that his 3rd word was ‘Tigers’.
Fastforward to 2000, and Michael was driving past Figtree Oval one day with his boys, when he saw some kids at AFL training. Matt & Chris both started Auskick that season, and within a week Michael was assisting the Auskick coach at training, and his journey at Figtree Australian Football Club had begun (even though we were Western Kangaroos back then). Over the ensuing years, Michael has had a variety of roles at Figtree, and within the league: 2000 – 2002 , Assistant Auskick Coach 2003, U10s Coach 2004, U10s Ass Coach, and lead the charge to ‘Save Figtree Oval’ from a soccer development 2005 – 2006, Junior Club President, and various assistant coaching roles 2007 – 2009, various roles within the League Committee eg Marketing, and Strategic Planning, also Webmaster for Figtree during some of that time Mid 2009 – started planning the beginnings of our Senior Club 2010 – 2011 – Senior Club President (even played 11 games in 2010 before a career-ending injury); he was also instrumental during this period in combining our Junior and Senior Clubs into one club … Figtree Australian Football Club 2012 – 2014 – member of the Board of AFL South Coast; during these years Michael continued to attend Figtree club meetings and had roles within Sponsorship/Marketing and Ground Development (including getting our new Toilet Block built) 2013 – Michael was awarded Life Membership of FAFC 2016 – Football Operations Manager, and Coach of our Senior Division 2 team Summarising, yes Michael is passionate about footy, but more importantly in providing a great club environment for our kids, youth and adults now too, to grow and develop their character, and of course, to play the game. |
Ashley Cairnduff
Ash, with his big personality, passion for AFL and dedication joined the Roo’s family back in 2005 along with his boy’s Ray and Gavin and his wife Jayne.
In typical Ash fashion, he didn’t want a list here of all the things, in his words “ Each of the years has been equally enjoyable as each other whether it was a premiership one or a growing one. They are both just as important! “ Here is just a short rundown of his ever tireless support of our great club. ● He has held an official role on the committee each of his years with the club and so many more unofficial ones too, everything from toilet cleaning (YEP! Know one wants that job) to making sure the posts are in on time each year. Throughout the entire club, everyone knows “Ash” the guy who will help out or get it done for you! ● He has coached at the club consecutively from 2005 - 2016. Junior grades from 2005 - 2011 and then Senior grades from 2012 - 2016. ● He has been heavily involved in the regional development squads and the representative program for junior footy in the Illawarra. He was the coach for some of the Illawarra rep sides and has also been part of the coaching staff for the senior representative teams along the way! ● He was a founding senior player in 2010 and played on and off until 2017. His love for the development of our game and bringing people together has over the years allowed for growth in the club both on and off the field. Thank you for all that you have done for our club Ash. We greatly appreciate you. |
Peter Veerhuis
Congratulations to Peter Veerhius on becoming the fourth person to join the Figtree Kangaroos Life Membership club. Peter has played a major part in our club for over ten years by coaching and assisting a number of our junior teams. His sons Kyle and Leroy have played all their junior football at Figtree. Peter was also instrumental in the growth of senior football at Figtree. He captained our Reserve Grade side to our first AFL South Coast premiership in 2011. Thank you for all you have done for our club Peter. We greatly appreciate you. |
Tervor Burnett
Congratulations to Trevor Burnett on becoming the fifth person to join the Figtree Kangaroos Life Membership club. Trevor has played a major part in our club for over ten years by coaching and assisting a number of our junior teams. His sons Brady and Ollie have played all their junior football at Figtree. Trevor is widely acknowledged as the best coach in our league and further afield by some and Figtree have been extremely lucky to have his knowledge and skills. His youngest son Olllie has been coached by him from Auskick all the way to under 17. Along with several other players from that Auskick group also playing right through, that team picked up 6 Grand final wins, only missing one competitive season by not making the GF. A massive effort in anyones eyes. It is a testament to Trevor that the majority of his players have transitioned into senior footy at Figtree seamlessly and all have become such fine young men Thank you for all you have done for our club Trevor. We greatly appreciate you. |
