Albion Park (1.5-11) def by Figtree (18.7-115) Congratulations to the boys who made history on Saturday as the first Figtree JAFC Under 17s team. The players were able to use their skills and run on the wide open spaces of JBO in what, despite the windy conditions was an entertaining game. Congrats also to Figtree boys Ray and Jarrod who were selected to play for the Illawarra Lions Under 18s in Sydney. Thanks to Steve Lawrence for the pics. In 1999 Aidan started his footy with the Figtree Kangaroos as an Auskicker where he played his junior footy until graduating to the Illawarra Lions U18s & seniors.
We are all very proud of Aidan's journey as a NSW scholarship player, then rookie and now senior listed player with the Crows. Godfrey In a dominant display against the less experienced Demons the Figtree players were able to consistently win the contested footy to set up an avalanche of scoring opportunities. To the credit of both clubs and despite the lopsided scoreboard the game was played out in good spirits. Congratulations to Kristian for being awarded players player and the combined effort of for achieving the goal of the day of JQ handballing off to Pete what could have been his tenth. Carden Finally footy is back! In round 1 Figtree took on the the new club, Shellharbour City Suns. The game got off to a messy start in very windy conditions at Jock Brown Oval. A good defensive effort by the Roos against the wind in the first quarter kept the Suns to a slight lead at quarter time. After the change of ends Figtree displayed plenty of endeavour and dominated possesion, but failed to capitalise fully scoring 4 goals and 9 behinds for the quarter. In the second half the team started to gel and put together some good passages of play, showing glimpses of what's in store as the season builds.
